Diwali: Celebrating the Festival of Lights in India
 
Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India and holds immense cultural, religious, and social significance. This vibrant festival of lights marks the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The festival is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists across the country and even around the world. Diwali is a time of joy, unity, and renewal, and its celebrations span several days, creating an atmosphere of festivity and exuberance.
 
Significance and Legends:
 
Diwali has various legends associated with it, each highlighting different aspects of the festival's significance. For Hindus, Diwali is often linked to the return of Lord Rama, along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, from their 14-year exile and their victory over the demon king Ravana. The lighting of lamps and fireworks symbolizes the people of Ayodhya welcoming them back by lighting up the city.
 
For Jains, Diwali commemorates Lord Mahavira's attainment of Nirvana (spiritual liberation) and his liberation from the cycle of birth and death (samsara). Sikhs celebrate Diwali to mark the release of Guru Hargobind Ji, the sixth Guru of Sikhism, and other imprisoned Sikh leaders from the Gwalior Fort by the Mughal emperor Jahangir.
 
Celebrations:
 
Diwali is a multi-day festival, and its preparations begin weeks in advance. Houses are cleaned and decorated, and people buy new clothes, utensils, and gifts. The festival kicks off with Dhanteras, where people buy gold, silver, and other metals to bring good luck. The second day is Naraka Chaturdashi or Choti Diwali, which involves ritual baths, applying oils, and lighting lamps to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness.
 
The main day of Diwali is marked by families coming together for prayers, sharing sweets and gifts, and lighting lamps or diyas. Rangoli, colorful patterns made with colored powders or flowers, adorn doorways to welcome guests and bring prosperity. Fireworks light up the sky, and the air is filled with the sounds of crackers and festive music.
 
On the fourth day, Govardhan Puja is celebrated, where a small hill of cow dung is made to honor Lord Krishna's act of lifting the Govardhan Hill. The fifth day, Bhai Dooj, is dedicated to the bond between brothers and sisters, similar to Raksha Bandhan.
 
Symbolism:
 
The lighting of lamps and candles signifies the victory of light over darkness and the dispelling of ignorance. The burst of fireworks and festive decorations create an atmosphere of celebration and unity. The exchange of sweets and gifts symbolizes sharing and spreading happiness.
 
Modern Trends:
 
While Diwali retains its traditional charm, modern celebrations also include community gatherings, cultural events, and charity initiatives. People often reach out to those less fortunate, donating food, clothes, and other essentials.
 
Diwali is more than just a festival; it's a time of renewal, family bonding, and cultural identity. <li> Each artwork should contain your name and date of creation</li>
<li>Each user should upload a minimun of 2 artworks maximum of 100 different artworks in this contest.</li>
<li>Who uploads the highest number of original, beautiful and relevant artwork would be considered as winner.</li>
<li> Any artwork without the mentioned steps will not be considered for winning.</li>
