Every year, the world celebrates World Tourism Day on the 27th September. It is a day marking the benefits and importance of tourism all around the world. Tourism marks the explorious and adventurous aspect of the human spirit, giving light to curious human thoughts about the world that we live in. Tourism allows people to explore different places and gain information about different places around the world also while allowing people from different cultures to interact with each other, promoting the values of friendship among all the people living on Earth.

As tourism is an important aspect of globalization, the United Nations chose the founding date of the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) as the World Tourism Day in the 1970’s and it has since been celebrated as the World Tourism Day. The timing of this day is particularly appropriate as it marks the beginning of the High Season in the Southern Hemisphere and the End of the High Season in the Northern Hemisphere.
The purpose of the World Tourism Day is to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, political, cultural and economic values world wide. The color of World Tourism Day is Blue.
The UNWTO is an agency specialized by the United Nations Organization entrusted with the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. Every Year, the UNWTO designates a host country to act as the Organization’s partner in the celebration of the World Tourism Day. This year, the host for the World Tourism Day is Indonesia.
